Architectural Specifications Writer
LGA Partners, a leading architecture firm headquartered in Pittsburgh, is currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Specifications Writer.


How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Interpret the project design requirements and translate them into comprehensive specifications, detailing materials, methods, equipment, procedures, installation guidelines, and certification testing needed
  • Review drawings, documents, and other related materials to write and refine technical specifications
  •  Ensure alignment with project requirements, institutional guidelines, technical specifications, relevant laws, regulations, and codes, and LGA’s standards
  • Develop specifications that guide the procurement, installation, and assembly of building components
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews of project documentation
  • Coordinate specifications with Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows and specification writing software
  • Assist project leaders and architects with constructability analyses
  • Support project designers with material selection, system research, and product research as necessary
  • Provide technical guidance throughout design development and construction document phases
  • Collaborate project architects to review shop drawing and product substitutions
  • Coordinate and review consultant technical specifications to ensure alignment with LGA standards
  • Develop and maintain relationships with third-parties throughout all project phases
  • Incorporate integrated sustainable design principles into project design
  • Regularly review and update existing specifications to reflect industry standards and best practices
  • Contribute to the creation and continuous improvement of LGA documentation and best practices
What Your Bring to the Table:
  • 3-7 years of experience in AEC industry
  • Minimum 3 years of experience editing or writing architectural specifications required
  • Degree in Architecture or related field advantageous
  • Expertise in specifications software programs such as SpecLink
  • Proficient in Bluebeam and in basic enterprise software (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, construction methodologies, building systems, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
  • In-depth understanding of construction procedures, schedules, and project workflows
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and ability to research, interpret, and incorporate them into technical documents
